Storm And Fire

Chapter 6: Close Call

Stork gave Junko a funny look. "No, that is not the Dark Ace. But he does seem to be the leader of these Cyclonians." Stork said, correcting Junko. I grinned. "Then we should be able to take them down in no time. I'll just get to my Skimmer and... and...." I couldn't finish my sentence. I began to feel very dizzy. Junko came to my side and held me up with his shoulder. "Thanks Junko." I said weakly. "I think you had better get back to bed Finn." Junko said firmly.

I frowned. But he was right. "Alright..." I agreed. I used the black cane I had found earlier and went back to the recovery room. As I laid down, I started to feel funny. A sharp pain shot throughout my entire body. I couldn't help but scream from the pain. Instantly Junko ran into the room. "What's wrong?" Junko asked with concern in his tone. I held my side. "It hurts... My body feels like it's on fire... Gah!" I said and fell back onto the bed.

"Finn!" Junko said, a worried look clear in his eyes. I coughed several times. It was getting hard to breath... Stork spoke. "He's getting worse isn't he?" He asked Junko. Junko nodded. "Looks like it." He said grimly. I ached all over now. The pain was so intense... "A-Aerrow..." I said in a raspy voice. I faded in and out of conciousness. I felt the Condor rock back and forth. Stork and Junko's voices echoed thoughout the Condor.

Soon, darkness came.

The next thing I was aware of was silence. Except for the Condor's engines that is. I opened my ice blue eyes. The world around me was fuzzy at first. But soon everything became clear. I was still in the recovery room. A purple blanket was on top of me. My head was resting on two dark blue pillows. I looked over to the room's entrance. Stork was steadily flying the ship. Junko paced the floor. Anxiously waiting for his friends to arrive. "Ohhh..." I said and rubbed my head.

I felt very sick. And my insides felt like burning fire crystals. "Stork? Junko?" I asked feeling exhausted. Junko spun around. "Finn!" He cried and ran towards me. "How ya feeling?" Junko asked. I smiled weakly. "Lousy." I answered and coughed. Junko smiled. He knew I was trying to be strong. I heard the sound of a door open. "We're back!" Piper said. I heard Radarr's chittering and footsteps as he ran in my direction.

"How is he?" Aerrow asked Stork. "Not good. Finn passed out about 2 hours ago. And he said it feels like his body is on fire. Plus he has a terrible cough." Stork answered with a frown. I heard someone approach me. "Finn?" Aerrow asked calmly. I was about to answer when I had a sudden urge to cough. And I coughed a lot. So much in fact I could not breath. "Finn!" Aerrow cried. I placed my hands in front of my face. Warm liquid trickled down them.

When I looked back at my hands I gasped. Blood! I felt that sharp pain in my chest again. I cried out in agony as the pain grew worse. I couldn't control myself. I struggled with the pain and then fell back onto the pillows. I started to black out again. "No!" Piper cried and ran over. I felt Radarr by my legs. Junko began to panic. "Finn! Hold on!" He shouted. I'm trying buddy... It's just so hard...

The next thing I felt was a warm light on me. The pain began to recede and I felt tired. I was so out of it though. My friend's voices faded. And I fell into darkness once more....

Aerrow, Piper, Junko and Radarr all looked at Finn's unmoving body. Aerrow was holding a bright purple crystal over his body. A determined look on his face, Aerrow gripped the Mako crystal tightly. Everyone was silent. They were all waiting to see what would happen. Eventually the glow from the crystal faded. And nothing happened. A few seconds pass. two minutes. Five minutes. Still nothing. Everyone lowered their heads in sorrow.

Junko sniffled. A few tears fell down Piper's face. Radarr wiped away some tears of his own. Stork looked away. Aerrow formed a fist with his hand. And tried not to cry himself. A moaning sound broke the silence. Everyone turned in Finn's direction. He slowly began to wake up......

"Unghh...." I said and looked around me. "Man I am hungry..." I said then looked up to see all of my friends looking back at me. "Hey. How's it going?" I asked and flashed a quick smile. Piper hugged me. "You idiot! You nearly gave us all a heart attack!" She said angrily. But it was a sort of happy anger. Radarr jumped on top of my chest and hugged me tightly. I patted his head and pushed him away. "Easy Radarr." Aerrow said and Radarr climbed back onto his shoulder.

Junko gave Stork a big hug. "They did it!" He said. Stork had a pained expression on his face. "Can't breath..." He said and Junko released him. I laughed at the scene. Soon the others left the room except for Aerrow. "I thought we were going to lose you for a second there." He said. I grinned. "Come on, it's me remember? I've lived through a lot. It's gonna take more than a little injury like this to take me down!" I said. "Chicka cha!" I said and winked.

Aerrow chuckled. "Yeah. I suppose so. But you were just healed, so try not to push it." He said in his leader's tone. "Yeah, yeah." I said. Aerrow left the room and I laid back. The nightmare was over. Yet it still felt like something else was coming. But for the moment I was going to rest. I was so tired. I looked out the window. The sun was rising now. Hard to believe all that was only one night.
Whew! Suspenseful!
